Jeanie Daves Pottery
Jeanie Daves’ work in clay ranges from mid-temperature functional stoneware to hand-built tiles, tile murals, and figure sculpture. A favorite technique involves painting with colored clay slips and incising to depict whimsical animal, plant and musician subjects, particularly those native to the Southern Appalachian region.
Jeanie started working in clay in 1978 at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, Atlanta. She earned a B.F.A. in ceramics at Georgia State University (GSU) in 1995, followed by 20 hours of graduate work in the MFA program. Jeanie also holds a master’s degree in communications journalism (GSU, 1985) and a B.A. in Theater Arts/English (Rollins College, 1966.)
Residents of Clarkesville, Georgia, Jeanie and her husband Walter are active in old-time music and contra dance activities. She sells her pottery through local galleries and teaches community workshops.
